Going to Tempe High for the first semester. We went from noon to 6 P.M. Working before school at a coffee shop
at University and Mill
Taking the bus to McClintock for the very first time from Tempe High.
Going to the football and basketball games. Riding the bus to away games. Playing schools like East High and Bourgade.
Beating Tempe High the very first year we played them, 3-2 at Goodwin Stadium.
Playing our football games at the Goodwin Stadium at College and Apache Blvd.
Riding the bus to school over the railroad overpass on McClintock. The narrow concrete roads on McClintock. You had
to drive with one wheel on the concrete and one wheel in the dirt. Lots of fun when it rained.
Bringing 45 rpm records to play in typing class. I can still remember some of the songs we typed to.
Taking drivers education from Coach Sturgeon. The blood and gore movies. Coach asking me if I could see the 'Tar'.
I had no idea he was asking if I could see the tire of the car in front of me. I guess I was following too close. I never did that again.
Getting my drivers license when I turned 16 and getting to drive to the home games. Getting into trouble thanks to my so
called friends throwing fire crackers out the back side window at Karl Erlichs front door on Malibu and College. My neighbor
was a cop and told my parents. So much for me driving.
Crickets on the end of the science building so thick you could hardly see the brick.
Hitting golf balls from the drive by the gym towards the houses to the north. I wonder if anyone ever hit a window.
Getting our senior pictures taken at Updikes Studio on Broadway.
Graduation night. It was over 100 degrees in the football stadium and we couldn't wait to get those robes off. Going to the
graduation party at Shalimar golf country club.
I remember taking driving lessons from the coach too. I don't remember if it was Lyons or Keifer, but he used to carry a small, thick rubber hose in the car which he threatened to beat you on the legs with if you messed up, but I never saw him use it.
Looking over the pictures in the photo gallery, I never realized there was so much going on at MHS when I was there.
Looking at one of the first pictures in the photo gallery brought back some memories. I remember all the open fields around MHS, but the last time I was in Tempe, probably 10 or 15 years ago, I drove by MHS and couldn't believe how that whole area had built up! I didn't even recognize the high school.
I remember those crickets. I hated going to math and science classes in the back of that last wing because of all those bugs. I have never seen anything like that before or since.
The time we got caught trying to follow Marlyn Anderson ( ex Bunnie? ) home from school, and got caught. Won't mention my 'Rocket Science' partners!
When I got my '64 GTO, and gave Sally Walker a ride home, cool%$#@*&%
Graduation party @ Shalimar, broke into the cooler for beer. Taking the Pool Cues and balls out on the greens, then having Doug Anderson ( he was the Shalimar rent a cop ) chase us in a golf cart, priceless.
Cruising Mesa, racing on Dobson Rd between Southern and Baseline.
High School friends, Denis Keller, Dennis Lamb, Chris Woodworth, Steve Skarphol.
ASU summer jobs, window cleaning @ the Art's Building. Everyone wanted that job!
And yes, Coach Sturgeon and the movies, Signal 30 and The Last Prom, classic gore & guts.
Getting caught with beer in the car, and the Cops made you pour it out. Think that would happen today?
